Avaya enables businesses to achieve superior results by designing, building and managing their communications infrastructure and solutions. For over one million businesses worldwide, including more than 90 percent of the Fortune 500®, Avaya's embedded solutions help businesses enhance value, improve productivity and create competitive advantage by allowing people to be more productive and create more intelligent processes that satisfy customers.
The Avaya Partner ACS telephone system is the leading phone system in its class (single site location (NON VoIP - VoIP it at www.SkypeMyPBX.com ) with under 48 phones) and has sold over 1.3 million systems and comes with 175 built in features! The Avaya Partner ACS telephone system is comfortable with a capacity of up to 14 lines, 33 extensions/phones and up to 6 concurrent users on the Partner Messaging Voice Mail Solution. Maximum capacities are up to 31 lines or up to 48 extensions and cannot be achieved simultaneously. The Avaya Partner ACS telephone system has been serving
A Brief History of the Partner Phone System
Do you already have a Partner Phone System? Do you know what version you have? Find out by clicking on the PARTNER INVENTORY INSTRUCTIONS.
The first generation of Partner
Processors are 206 Modules with basically no features of any and just
provide up to 2 lines and up to 6 partner phones. These have Gray
stickers on them. These can also be used an expansion module in later
systems and work as stand alone systems.
The next generations of
Partner Processors were the Partner Plus Processors. These are what I
call dummy processors in that they are only processors and do not offer
connectivity for any phone lines or any phones. To make the Partner
Plus Processors work you need a white Partner 5 slot carrier and a 206 or 206E Expansion Module.
Then came the Partner II Processors.
It also is just a processor and needs a white 5 slot carrier and an expansion
module work like the 206, 206E or 206EC as caller ID was introduced w/
Partner II release 3.0. The Partner II also had the ability to add a
second white 5 slot cabinet/carrier to it for expansion levels up to 16 lines and up
to 48 phones.
The newest version of Partner Processors is the
Partner ACS Processors. They are like the first generation of Partner Processors in that they
can function as a stand alone processor and have a built in line and phone
connectivity. So they don't need to be in a carrier and just need the PARTNER POWER CORD to be connected to the back of the Processor and then for the lines and Partner Phones to be connected. Releases 1 - 6 have the built in capacity for up to 3
lines and up to 8 phones and have the most available features. Release 7
and 8 are 509 processor and have the built in capacity for up to 5
lines and up to 9 phones. However the 509's are extremely surge
sensitive and must have a UPS connected to them at all times. The
slightest outage or fluctuation in power and they seem to die. The
green light will light up but all lines and phones will be dead. So I
do not carry them on purpose any more and just upgrade all of the
Partner ACS 308 Processors releases 1 - 5 to release 6 as the Partner
ACS 308 Processors are a much more and very reliable platform and almost
hard to break.
If you already have an Avaya Partner system and need some programming assistance please read over the Avaya Partner ACS Release 8 And Lower Programming & User's Manual Or Partner ACS 6 Installation Programming & Use Manual or if you are looking to expand please refer to the Avaya Partner ACS Inventory Instructions to determine the release of your system and the available features - see the Avaya Partner ACS 7 & lower Feature Matrix - and what your current capacities are and what migration paths are available to best meet your needs. If you need a professional recording to advertise your company or to play music for your customers while they are on hold please review our Music-On-Hold options. If you have a phone that needs to be replaced just purchase another Avaya Partner ACS Phone and plug it in as all programming is stored the system processor and not the phone itself! For more information on Avaya Partner phones review Avaya Partner ACS Phones and How To Use Your Avaya Partner Phone.
Some of the other advantages to the Avaya Partner ACS Processors are that you can backup the system programming in the case of programming loss. To prevent losing programming on the ACS Processors you remove the battery cover on the bottom of the ACS Processor and put in 2 AAA batteries. If the batteries need to be changed the system will display on Extension 10 and 11 a message such as "ChgBat W/PowerOn or ReplaceSysBat W/Power On" If you lose power when the batteries are low all of your programming will most likely be lost.
To make sure you have a backup plan to restore your Partner ACS Programming I highly recommend getting a Avaya Partner ACS Backup/Restore PC Card or a combination Avaya Partner ACS Backup/Restore/Remote Access PC Card. You can also upgrade your Avaya Partner ACS Processors to take advantage of newer features like Remote Call Forwarding (Allows you to forward calls to an external phone number such as your cell phone when calls are directed to your extension - Available on Release 6) or to use some the of the newer Expansion Cards such as the 308EC which needs to be a release 2.0 or higher or to use the 012E Expansion Module or a 362EC Module which both need to be release 5.0 or higher or to use a Partner T1 Module which needs to release 6.0 or higher. All you need is the AVAYA PARTNER ACS R 6.0 MULTI- USE UPGRADE CARD.
Another neat PC Card on the Avaya Partner ACS processor you can use is a AVAYA PARTNER ACS ASA/DXD PC CARD. It can be used for answering and directing calls and helps the system
operator handle outside calls during peak calling periods. When an
outside call rings on a line programmed with Automatic System Answer,
the system answers it after a specified number of rings and plays a
short user-recorded greeting (20 second announcement) to the caller.
For more information see the above red link.
If you are looking for a new phone system the first thing you need is a processor -it is the brain of the system.
Avaya Partner ACS Processors
Partner ACS R6 – up to 3 lines and up to 8 phones
If you need to expand beyond the capacity of the processor you will need a carrier. I recommend the Gray Avaya Partner ACS 5 slot carrier as it is more durable and more expandable to add up to 4 more modules beyond that of the processor than the Avaya Partner ACS 2 Slot Carrier. How the Processor reads the expansion modules is from Left to Right. So the Processor is read first in slot 3, then the far left slot or slot 1 is seen/read by the processor, then slot 2, slot 4 and slot 5. My rule of thumb is to put the expansion modules with more ports earlier in the configuration - meaning a 308EC Expansion Module would be seated before 206E/206EC Module etc.
Avaya Partner ACS Carriers
Partner 2 slot - adds up to 1 more module
Partner 5 slot adds up to 4 more modules
The expansion cards below are named by the first digit representing the maximum number of lines and the following 2 digits representing the maximum # of extensions – i.e. a 308EC adds up to 3 lines and up to 8 phones and the EC represents it is an “E” expansion module and the “C” for that it is caller ID compatible. The T-1 module adds up to 16 more lines – click on the link for more information on that.
Avaya Partner ACS Expansion Modules
Partner 200E - adds up to 2 more lines and up to 0 more phones and is not caller ID compatible
Partner 400E - adds up to 4 more lines and up to 0 more phones and is not caller ID compatible
Partner 400EC - adds ukp to 4 more lines and up to 0 more phones and IS caller ID compatible
Partner 206E - adds up to 2 more lines and up to 6 more phones and is NOT caller ID compatible
Partner 206EC – adds up to 2 more lines and up to 6 more phones and is caller ID compatible – All releases
Partner 308EC - adds up to 3 more lines and up to 8 more phones and is caller ID Compatible - ACS R 2.0 and higher
Partner 012E - adds 0 lines and 12 more phones and is caller ID compatible - ACS R 5 & higher
Partner T1 – adds up to 16 more lines – Non PRI – No Caller ID – ACS R 6 and higher

If you need a Partner ACS Voice Mail Solution all of the options come with an Automated Attendant and call routing options. The most common problem people have the the Partner Voice Mail Solutions is when initially installing or if programming has been lost when a call comes in it will go straight to the Automated Attendant greeting and act like it is broken to an average non technician user. In order for the Partner Voice Mail Solution to communicate with the Partner Processor Voice Mail Ports must be assigned. For more information see below and keep reading!
Partner Voice Messaging PC Cards For Partner ACS Processors
There are the 2 port compact Partner Voice Messaging PC cards with up to 4 mailboxes on the PVM (Partner Voice Messaging) Small or up to 16 mailboxes on the PVM Large with a 2 simultaneous user capacity for either, going through the prompts, leaving or checking a voice mail. These are compatible on ACS Processors release 1.1 and higher and fit into either PC Card slot , 1 or 2, on the Avaya Partner ACS Processor itself.
For
the Partner Voice Messaging Small PC Cards there are releases 1, 2
& 3. Release 1 is not very good and is known for popping in the
background of the auto attendant and Automated Attendant choices can
only be selected after all of the options have been presented. For PVM
Small releases 2 & 3 they are both very good and reliable and the
only major difference between them is that with release 3 you can have
fewer than 4 mailboxes for the ability to have more storage time per
mailbox
For the Partner Voice Messaging (PVM) cards to communicate with the processor ports on the system mus be assigned.
Assigning Voice Mail Ports
To see what buttons are the system program buttons and the "next" buttons etc see the Partner ACS 6 Installation Programming & Use Manual. The Partner Programming Overlays are on page 5 of chapter 3 which is page 80.

Installation & Support
If you are unable to resolve any programming issues by yourself let me know and I can have my technician either call you for support at $60 per 30 minutes with a 30 minute minimum billed in 15 minute increments after that or have my local technician come out at $145/hr with a $75 visit trip. If wiring is needed in a standard office environment with drywall and drop ceilings and within 120’ of the processor they are $95 each – individual wire runs are needed from the phone system processor to each individual phone for a phone system.
For New System Installs - Install estimates are based off of 30 minutes per phone and if a system voice mail solution is involved 45 minutes per extension not to exceed 3 hours over that estimate. Trouble shooting is not included in the estimate and if applicable is billed separately.
